We made a trip to Florida with our priority being to see Ralph, Bill's father and Alice his mother. Due to Ralph's advancing age (92) and his poor health. Ralph also went blind 3 years ago. I desperately wanted to see him at least one more time which would have been the first time in 30+ years. He impacted my life with his wisdom and kindness and I care for him deeply. Bill and I learned that Ralph had fallen out of bed, and had injured himself. We didn't know the extent of his injury until we returned to Michigan, but he had broken his pelvis with that fall.

We didn't make extensive plans for our trip, only that we wanted to drive because we take such wonderful road trip together. Time and miles seemed to fly by when we are traveling together. We talk about everything, past, present and future.

As always, we had a wonderful trip down, even though we ran through monsoon like rain, and scorching sun and traffic through Atlanta that would make a saint cuss! And I had my share of laughter listening to Bill's ongoing tirade's concerning the "idiot" drivers on the road. And Bill only got lost a few times. Here's a news flash, he actually stopped and asked directions! Of course we laughed and talked most of the way down there, I can't imagine a more enjoyable trip, but I know we will have many more.

We of course stayed with Bill's brother Chris and his charming wife, who is another new "best friend" of mine. They have a beautiful home, and we will include photo's of the house and Chris and Jenny as well.

We went to see Ralph, and Bill took his hand, said "Dad, it's me Bill, and I have Pat with me" Ralph smiled and said "Hi, Bill" then took my hand, kissed it and said "Pat I'm glad your with Bill again, he needed you". We told him we would take him anywhere he wanted to go, and his only request was to see Alice..deep love runs in the Burhans family. Ralph and Alice live in a retirement community, Alice is in an Assisted living unit, while Ralph with his medical problems lives in PCU..which is personal care unit, for medical attention around the clock. Because of their special needs, they can't live in the same unit and although Alice visits Ralph often, Ralph seldom gets to visit Alice in their "home".

We honored Ralph's request to see Alice, and rather than load him in and out of the wheelchair to the car, we decided to take him in the wheelchair the 3 blocks to Alice's unit. At that time we did not know he had broken his Pelvis, and he held his legs up the complete way there.. without a word of complaint.. this is the kind of person Ralph is. We got lunch and had a wonderful visit with Ralph and Alice before we had to take Ralph back to PCU, with him holding his legs up all the way back as well... again not a word of complaint. God, we love that man!!

We did go back and visit with Ralph and Alice again, Here then are some photo's of our visit with them.

Here is Alice. You can see her golf cart behind her. The kids took her car away from her because of her driving skill..or lack thereof! But she still can get down to see Ralph, but can't leave the facility and she still does terrorize the neighborhood.

This is Ralph... what a wonderful smile he has for everyone. The first photo is of Bill and his brother Chris with Ralph. The second photo is me with Ralph.
