And what a trip it was!!! So far all the trips we have taken have been memorable and fun.. something we can look back on and smile about. I had ever confidence that this trip would be the same. And, in a way it has been...now!! First of all, the trip out there was not actually a vacation type of trip. I had to pick up my belongings that remained there. This meant that I would have to have contact with my ex-husband.. Although a nice man, the meeting was uncomfortable at best. Having gotten that part of the trip over, Bill proceeded to hook up my pride and joy to a tow bar. If you haven't guessed, my pride and joy is a car.. a 1985 California Cougar, in mint condition with only 40,000 miles on it... a beautiful vehicle. Poor Bill spent several hours hooking the car to the tow bar in the middle of a black top parking lot, no shade, no breeze and about 90 degrees. Finally he had it secured, and we zigzagged through the parking lot to make sure it was secure, and headed on our way home. In good spirits and finally glad to be on our way. We slowly turned onto the main road, when Bill almost calmly said, "There goes your car, Pat", I looked out the passengers window only to see my car leisurely drive up a side walk.. through a food court, straight for a restaurant!! Oh yes.. it hit the building to be more exact a plate glass window! I was out of the truck before it came to a stop, ran up the same sidewalk my car had just traversed and could do nothing but stand there while glass was still showering down into the food court, my car and the sidewalk we both had charged up! The good news was, it was 2:00 PM and the food court and restaurant was virtually empty except for the employees, and no one was hurt, not even a little scratch. After reassuring myself that no one was injured, I kind of collapsed and got a tad hysterical!! Bill tried to calm me, an elderly lady in a wheel chair, who by the way saw what happened from a very close vantage point, tried to calm me to no avail.  I was not to be denied my hysteria!! After several minutes, I did calm down some and proceeded to try and give that car away to any one and every one who passed by, I didn't care if they took it and made it into a flower box, in fact suggested that to restaurant owners...after all it certainly was in a perfect spot for it!! The police arrived, looked puzzled then chuckled.  Told us to get the car moved and to be on our way. No ticket was issued.  No complaint levied on us. So we got a tow truck to come and get the car and took it to a garage that said it could re-attach the tow bar the next day.

Frankly all I wanted to do at that point was leave California for good. There is so much more to this little (?) story, but as usual, I've gotten a bit chatty. I will add more to this saga at a later date.. Stay tuned. Bill and I finally got on our way out of California back home to Michigan. As usual I took lots of photo's, mostly from the window of the truck, lots of scenery, sunsets, mountains and Mesa's. I hope you enjoy our trip across the country.

Here is Bill behind the wheel of the truck. He drove the full distance of the trip for which I am grateful. We stopped several times just to look at things along the way. We decided we had to come back to this area for a real vacation to stop and spend more time just to discover the wonderful things the west has to offer as far as history. We both have the same thought processes, and several times made the comment that we could visualize what it must have been like while the country was still young and what the settlers must have seen and thought as they came across this vast country of ours.

Below are just a few of the vista's we marveled at. The 3rd photo is a rainbow. It is unusual to have rain out across the desert, but had some rain and the way the desert came alive after was a sight to behold. I will be adding more photo's of our trip, so please stop back again to see the changes that will be made.
